Karo Bio’s Karo Bio and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals have drug discovery collaboration with the liver X receptor (LXR) as pharmaceutical target. LXR is a new member of the nuclear receptor protein family and the receptor plays important roles in cholesterol metabolism and inflammatory responses.

The collaboration with Wyeth has primarily been focused on atherosclerosis but other clinical opportunities have also been explored.
Recently it has been shown that LXR can play an important role in inflammatory processes and the continued collaboration will be focused on drug discovery in the field of inflammatory disorders.
