Purpose  

The purpose of Karo Bio’s research foundation is to provide scientists working in the academia with grants to do research in the field of Karo Bio’s current research focus. For information about Karo Bio’s different research activities see our R&D Portfolio

 

Awards
During 2007 and 2008 the following projects received grants:

  •  Margaret Warner och Konstantin Yakimchuk, "Use of ER-B agonists to stimulate immune surveillance. A novel approach for treatment of cancer". 800 000 SEK (2007)
  • Paolo Parini, "Studies on the effects of Thyroid Receptor beta modulation on the reverse cholesterol transport and the development of atherosclerosis in mice".  800 000 SEK (2007)
  • Cheryl Frye, ”Is estrogen receptor beta a target for beneficial effects of androgens in an animal model of andropause?”. 60 000 USD (2008)
  • Monique Kester, “ Role of  type III deiodinase (D3) and thyroid hormone analogs in cellular proliferation”. 70 000 EUR (2008)
  • Björn Vennström, ” Thyroid Hormone Receptors in Glycose Metabolism & Glucogen Storage”. 800 000 SEK (2008)
  • Mats Rudling, ” Role of thyroid hormone for the absorption of dietary cholesterol and hepatic bile acid synthesis in man”. 500 000 SEK (2008

Application  

The annual application deadline is 1 April and should be sent by e-mail to The Research Foundation, Karo Bio AB, researchfoundation@karobio.com
 The application, in English, should not exceed four pages in one document and should contain:  
-Summary
-General research idea
-Purpose with project
-Research Plan & budget
-Importance
-Literature references
-Short CV for applicant.

A scientific advisory board reviews and recommends based on the scientific merits of the application. Karo Bio’s research foundation decides based on the recommendation from the scientific advisory board and the significance from Karo Bio’s perspective.

The scientific advisory board consists of:
Professor Ingemar Björkhem, Karolinska Institute
Professor Anders Jacobsson,  Stockholm University
Professor Anders Grahnén,  Uppsala University and  Quintiles AB
