Liver Selective GR Antagonist for Type 2 Diabetes

The spread of diabetes has reached epidemic proportions. According to WHO 150-200 million people suffer from type 2 diabetes.There is a great need for new compounds with new mechanisms of action.


PRODUCT PROFILE 
KB3305 is a first in class liver selective glucocorticoid antagonist that has shown excellent efficacy and safety in several preclinical models for type 2 diabetes. This novel mechanism of action for improvement of glycemic control has the potential to become an important contribution to the treatment since hepatic glucose production is elevated in patients wwith type 2 diabetes. In addition to glucose lowering, KB3305 also lowers other important risk factors for type 2 diabetics such as LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides and free fatty acids in plasma.


DEVELOPMENT STATUS
At the end of 2007 a clinical phase I/IIa program was initiated. In the first part of the program single ascending doses has been given to healthy volunteers. KB3305 exhibit a robust and predictable pharmacokinetic and was well absorbed without serious adverse events.. The program will continue with a multiple ascending dose study and later in the year with a study in patients with type 2 diabetes.
