A compound for high blood lipids

Karo Bio started a Phase III program for eprotirome in 2011. The project was discontinued in February 2012 after an animal study unexpectedly showed that the substance had unwanted effects.

Eprotirome was a completely new concept for reducing risk of cardiovascular diseases. The substance was a liver selective agonist of thyroid hormone receptor that showed good efficacy in Phase II clinical trials.
